Project Overview:
Terra Constructs was selected to execute the expansion of the 1st Infantry Division Monument, located within the White House grounds in President’s Park. Commissioned by the Society of the First Infantry Division and managed in coordination with the National Park Service, the project required strict compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), as well as coordination with the U.S. Secret Service and White House staff.
An extended submittal process ensured the sourcing of Milford Pink Granite to match the original monument material. Terra’s scope included selective demolition, stone reclamation, excavation, and installation of six 20,000 lb. granite plinths using a 175-ton crane.
Additional work included bronze plaque fabrication, foundation construction, stone cleaning, joint sealants, landscape restoration, and stormwater improvements. Terra also managed background clearances and stakeholder coordination throughout construction.
The project was delivered on time and without contract modifications, ensuring completion for the Memorial Day 2024 Opening Ceremony. This outcome highlights Terra’s ability to execute high-profile, historically sensitive projects under demanding technical and security conditions.
