Bromley Hollow (FSR 6031) Road Reconstruction

Terra Constructs was selected for this project with the U.S. Forest Service. The purpose of the project was to provide critical roadway culvert improvements due to severe erosion. Scope included replacement of 21 CMP pipe culverts, temporary traffic control, site demolition, roadway removal, culvert installation, stormwater, roadway restoration, and site restoration.

The project was in the George Washington National Forest, situated in the Virginia Shenandoah Valley. The project was in a remote area with limited resources, equipment, and manpower. The project included stringent E&S and watershed management practices. Terra was responsible for the removal and replacement of multiple culverts varying in both size and depth. New culvert sizes ranged from 18″ to 48″ and included placement of bedding stone and compacted backfill. VDOT Class II rip-rap was installed at select culvert locations. Following installation of the pipe culverts, the roadway was restored. Final grading and seeding was performed at all disturbed areas. Environmental management and compliance were effectively controlled throughout the project and impact to the environment was mitigated. Silt fencing and other measures were incorporated into the overall SWPPP plan.

Terra provided all contractual pre-construction submittals including Safety Plan, Quality Control Plan, SWPPP plan, Baseline Schedule, Appointment Letters, SOV, and associated requirements within two (2) weeks receipt of the Notice of Award. Subsequent shop drawings and materials submittals were promptly provided to the government for review and approval. A pre-construction meeting was held with government representatives to ensure all submittals, safety measures implemented, and qualified personnel were at the job during work. The project progressed in a controlled manner, communicating to the client on a daily/weekly basis of the planned activities.

The project was executed and completed within the specified duration.
