Terra is pleased to report that they have completed the stabilization of all three pylons at the Arlington National Cemetery in December 2023. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District awarded Terra Constructs a Design-Build contract in 2022 to stabilize and restore the three historical monuments at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
In this time-lapse video, Terra is pleased to share the 6.5 hour stabilization process of the first of the three pylons in partnership with Arlington National Cemetery, US Army Corps of Engineers, and videographer Daryl Vaca.
The first of the three 750-ton monuments was successfully stabilized in October 2023. The monument was tilted due a combination of the original footing design and existing soils condition.
The Design-Build solution required the installation of 40’ push piers and brackets to jack, stabilize, and level the monuments. Helical anchors were installed to provide lateral stability. The project involves temporary stabilization, installation of permanent piles and helical anchors, jacking and leveling the granite monuments, completing site improvements, and landscaping.
Terra is proud to support both the Arlington National Cemetery and USACE, Norfolk District, on this important project. We are committed to completing the project to the highest standards of quality and safety.
