Terra Constructs is part of VDOT’s $2.3B I-66 Transform P3 Public-Private-Partnership to provide infrastructure needs through sound walls

Terra Constructs has been contracted to work on several key segments of the I-66 corridor in Northern Virginia as a part of the Express Mobility Partners P3 design build turnkey project. Our company is glad to be a subcontractor and use our expertise in providing cost effective and robust construction solutions. Continued employment growth and suburban expansion in Northern Virginia require reliable trips, multimodal options and noise mitigation with the Commonwealth and VDOT leading the charge. We remain committed to serving the Commonwealth’s growing industry and population growth that augments infrastructure investment and logistics reliability.

Terra Constructs scope includes design build installation of sound walls and MSE walls with precast panels. The work also incorporates stormwater drainage structures, associated earthwork as well as Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP) and Cast in Place (CIP) duct banks within the MSE wall reinforcement zone.

Terra will be installing nearly 650,000 SF of sound walls on this major infrastructure investment by project completion in 2022. This scope includes installing nearly 430,000 square feet of ground mount sound walls along I 66 by 2022–340,000 SF has already been installed by our experienced crews and an additional 90,000 SF will be installed next year. In addition, Terra has already installed nearly 90,000 SF of lightweight sound walls with an additional 120,000 SF remaining to be installed in 2022. As a part of the sound wall installation, nearly 16,000 LF of caissons were installed for the posts. Our focus on heavy civil work in the Mid-Atlantic, in house team of seventy-five construction professionals and investment in heavy construction equipment has allowed us to meet the demands of the project and the stakeholders.

Babur R. Mian, P.E., President & CEO of Terra Constructs commented, “Sound walls are a vital part of the infrastructure spend given higher densities, increased utilization and environmental mitigation. Terra Constructs has installed several million square feet of sound walls over the years and we are grateful to the stake holders for being recognized and supported for this work.“

Sound wall construction helps reduce high and low-frequency noise levels that contribute to various health problems, such as circulatory issues, nervous system problems, lack of sleep as well as immune suppression. Stringent standards for sound walls are required by VDOT studies to reduce noise by 10 decibels or more and provide a visual, auditory and security barrier for residents and businesses abutting I 66 and enhance the quality of life, promote health and preserve assets along the highway.
