National Park Service / Rehabilitate Waterfront Dock

The National Park Service selected Terra Constructs to perform construction requirements necessary to extend the service life of the pier.

The existing pier required structural upgrades and improvements related installation of new steel piles, fendering, removal and reinstallation of riprap, repairs to concrete piles and pile caps, pile jacketing, concrete deck replacement, deck repairs, electrical service upgrades, and dock lighting.

The pier has experienced damage and deterioration related to weather events, age, and increased ferry boat service schedules. The primary purpose of the project is installation of new four (4) steel pile systems with rubber fendering to eliminate direct transfer of energy from the boats to the dock when approaching and leaving the dock. Electrical systems were upgraded and designed to prevent saltwater intrusion during a significant storm or tidal event.

Partnered with the client, designer, and ferry boat captains to develop a practical and cost-effective solutions to ensure mooring and access requirements were achieved.

• Coordinated schedule activities to accommodate tidal fluctuations and provided weekly updates to the client
• Held multiple coordination meetings with the client and ferry service to establish and implement a comprehensive safety protection plan for the Park guests.
• Held multiple coordination meetings with the client and ferry Captain’s to establish clear communications and requirements for the Contractor as necessary to minimize disruption to the Park.

Terra delivered the project on schedule and on budget.
